Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

Striped bass fishing charter on Tuna Hunter is great family fun.  These stripers were a great experience for all, plus some fine steaks for the grill.

Great striped bass fishing ladies!

Annual Nivens Family Gloucester Fishing Bonanza

Saturday, July 9th, 2011

The annual Nivens family reunion typically includes a Gloucester fishing charter aboard Tuna Hunter, and typical both sessions produce loads of fish, plenty to feed the extended family back home.  The 2011 bash was no exception.

This year the morning team outshone with striped bass – over ten keepers to 40 inches. Hard to beat! The action was busy all morning, making it hard to leave to swap out for the afternoon crew.

In the afternoon, the striper action slowed, but the cod action picked up. Drift rigs for striped bass fishing where exchanged for bottom rigs for cod fishing, and soon everyone was contributed large codfish to the fish box.  Gloucester fishing at its finest!

Join Tuna Hunter with your family for great fishing, and great fun. We look forward to fishing with you!

Gloucester Striped Bass Fishing – Full and Half-Day Full Swing

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

Gloucester striped bass fishing is in full swing, for full and half-day charters aboard Tuna Hunter.

As these guys, Cory and company from Utica, NY can attest, a half-day charter can be just as productive as a full day charter.
Striped Bass abound in the far reaches of Gloucester Harbor and outside of Gloucester and Rockport around the rocky coast of Cape Ann.  Tuna Hunter can put you into feeding stripers on all of our inshore charters, so whether we travel down to Kettle Island, north to Milk and Thatcher Islands, or fish our secret spots withing Gloucester harbor, you are bound to encounter striped bass action.  Take advantage of summer – take half-day charter on Tuna Hunter to reconnect with friends, for a family outing, or just for the fun of it.  Call Captain Gary at 978-407-1351 to arrange for your striped bass charter.
Good fishing to all!

Gritsevskiy Gloucester Cod Fishing on Tuna Hunter

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Pavel and Anatoly had an unforgettable day cod fishing charter out of Gloucester, MA aboard the Tuna Hunter.  They waited out the week for a break in the weather and it proved worth the wait – sun shining, decent seas and a good cod bite – what more can one ask for!  A boatful of fish?  Yup, got that too.

Gloucester cod fishing is in full swing – rain or shine, the cod and haddock are hitting on jigs and bait, making for full coolers and plenty of food for the family and friends.  Gloucester Striped Bass fishing is heating up – fish to 35 inches have been taken both inside and outside of the harbor, so plan now for those striper charters.  Call 978-407-1351 or email captain@tunahunter.com to reserve your fishing charter. Good fishing!

Striped Bass Gloucester for Holden Family

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Did we mention striped bass fishing off of Gloucester is going strong this year?  The Holden family has a productive striped bass charter with Tun Hunter last weekend.  It sure is nice to catch fish too big to hold!

Striped bass and bluefish action is prime right now – there are mackerel in the harbor and around the cape, with striped bass, bluefish and even bluefin tuna pushing them.  Can’t miss with that kind of action.  There is a lot of good fishing in a half-day charter, you deserve it!

The Pineapple Gang _ Gloueste Cod Fishing for 7 Years

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

For the seventh year in a row, the Pineapple Gang’s Gloucester cod fishing charter aboard Tuna Hunter was a big success.

The entire family are great anglers, and certainly know how to have a great time. No messing around here. It was serious fishing: as soon as we reached the fishing grounds, jigs hit the water.  Fish hit jigs more than bait, as has been the usual lately.

This year the team amassed a boatload of fish, cod, haddock and a large cusk.  Yes, cusk are good eating.
We look forward to sharing a day with these guys each year.

While we were cod fishing last weekend, the bluefin tuna action remains strong. Bluefin of varying sizes are all over, being taken by kite, balloons, live and ead bait,  some of jigs even. So be prepared for anything!

Inshore the striped bass fishing is good, despite the commercial season. Tuna Hunter’s evening bass charters have been particularly successful.  It was great to host the Arasian family again this week – with Dad again taking top fish. Photos coming!

Tuna Hunter has mid-week openings for full charters and singles – give us a call at 978-407-1351 or email captain@tunahunter.com for the latest openings.  Check for weekend cancellations – we’ll do our best to fit you in.  Good fishing to you!

Nivens Striped Bass Bonanza

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

The Nivens family displayed excellent angling skills on their two-shift striped bass charter aboard Tuna Hunter.  They chose two shifts, to ensure everyone, all ages, could enjoy some time on the water, and a a chance at high hook.  The morning shift prevailed in sheer numbers of fish, easily reaching their limit of 30-40+ inch stripers. Fish hit steadily on a mix of live bait and artificial. Chumming is difficult due to dogfiish – you will need to adjust tactics to avoid them.

The afternoon shift saw fewer fish, but Scott reeled in the biggest fish of the day, at 43 inches, and we let that one go! All around a perfect day, a great striped bass charter, followed by a great meal of grilled striper and lobsters.

Full or half-day striped bass charters are a great way to get anglers of all ages out for some fishing. Tuna Hunter has morning and evening half-day charters, just call or text us for the latest openings at 978-407-1351, or email captain@tunahunter.com.  Good fishing to you!

Striped Bass Gloucester on Tuna Hunter

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Striped Bass only seemed to arrive late this year; they are here in full swing now. The Rodriquez family spent an afternoon fishing off of Gloucester and put together a mixed catch, including some fine striped bass for the grill.

Striped Bass charters are a great family event, for all ages and all abilities. Stripers respond to herring and live bait, and a variety of lures when conditions warrent.  Call (or text!) for the latest openings, including “half-day” evening charters, at 978-407-1351.  Or email captian@tunahunter.com. Good fishing to you!

Giant Bluefin Tuna in June!

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Some guys go fishing on their birthday … these guys go tuna fishing on their birthday. The birthday guy gets a can of tuna fish (Starkist?) for his present. That’s dinner, unless he lands a bluefin tuna that day.  So far, these guys are 100% successful, and were spared the canned tuna.

Gloucester Giant Tuna Charter on Tuna Hunter - Ted Cannon and Crew

Bluefin tuna arrived in Gloucester early this year – so bluefin tuna charters are in full swing now. There are tuna of all sizes out there, and even with the current slot regulations, Tuna Hunter will make sure you get the best battle and most bluefin tuna action possible.  Tuna are feeding on live prey, and matching that prey along with being the right locaiton at the right time with the right tackle and great crew makes the difference. This bluefin bypassed beautiful mackerel dangled from a kite, for a boring chunk of baint 30 ft down. Go figure.

Not into tuna? Striped bass are here as well, though perhaps getting overshadowed by tuna news. Striped bass around the rocky coast of Cape Ann is a great bet for a great day on the water, and a great piece of fish for the grill.

Call us for the latest openings – that next hugie has your name on it

The last trip for this crew they landed two giant bluefin tuna   (see photo on our Facebook page).  So of course we are happy to have these guys, and their luck, return for a cod & haddock fishing charter aboard Tuna Hunter.

A gorgeous day, good company, and great cod fishing made for a good time for all. No hugies on this trip, but steady action of keeper cod, limiting out by the end of the day.
